Yorkshire, Humberside, Lincolnshire, Cumbria & Lancashire

Yorkshire and Humberside logore:shape, formerly known as YHLCOSA (Yorkshire, Humberside & Lincolnshire Circles of Support & Accountability), delivers the Circles of Support and Accountability programme, as well as a wide range of additional services, across Yorkshire, Humberside, Lincolnshire, Cumbria and Lancashire.

re:shape’s goal is to keep communities safe by reducing the risk of sexual harm. Our mission statement is NO MORE VICTIMS, which we support through a service built on four key elements: awareness, recognition, rehabilitation, and zero tolerance. We do this by empowering the community to ‘be the change’.

With support from volunteers, we offer interventions to people who are at risk of causing sexual harm; deliver education and awareness sessions; and offer a tailored service to support businesses in managing misconduct and harassment. Core to our approach is the belief that we all have the power to make a difference within our community.

Our services:

Circles of Support & Accountability

We manage groups of 4-6 trained volunteers who form a group around an individual who has the potential to cause sexual harm, but is motivated not to reoffend. Circles meet weekly for up to 18 months, holding the Core Member accountable to their actions and behaviour while providing support and practical guidance in areas like developing social skills and finding employment.

Paired mentoring interventions

Similar to the Circles model, paired mentoring is suitable for people who are less socially isolated or emotionally lonely but would still benefit from support to prevent them from offending. Two volunteers meet the Core Member weekly for up to six months, providing support and accountability and connecting them safely to their community.

One-to-one interventions

These consist of a trained Interventions Coordinator and a Core Member, and typically last between 3-6 months. One-to-one support aims to provide a supportive, pro-social model that, as with all interventions, requires the Core Member to take responsibility and be accountable for his/her ongoing risk management. Support is holistic, focused on risk management, and tailored to meet the individual needs of the Core Member.

Training and consultancy

We provide independent, client-focussed training and consultancy to teams working in frontline services such as social housing, elder care, and drug and alcohol services, where there are concerns about working with individuals who cause sexual harm. Additionally, we offer an extensive consultancy service to all organisations receiving our training, which includes input and advice on organisational policy, risk management, team welfare and training needs.

Community awareness sessions

In support of our #PreventSexualHarm campaign, we work extensively with individuals and organisations within a variety of diverse communities, helping them understand the prevalence and effects of sexual harm, signposting to relevant professional support services, and highlighting that preventing sexual harm is within every individual’s own power.

Sexual Harassment & Misconduct Response Service membership for organisations

re:shape’s Sexual Misconduct & Harassment Response Service is a membership programme which supports organisations to respond to the risk of sexual misconduct in the workplace effectively and ethically. The service helps businesses and other organisations to understand their responsibilities and assess their risks; respond appropriately to historic, ongoing, or future allegations of sexual misconduct; foster a company culture of respect and autonomy; and put practices in place to encourage and build a transparent, safe working environment.

re:shape is proud to have won a POPS Positive Partnership award, The Butler Trust award, The Guardian Small Charity award and a Duke of York Award, and for being the Howard League Community Programme 2012 award runner up.

Our Board of Trustees brings together current and retired criminal justice professionals, community members and Quakers. re:shape also has steering groups in all our project areas to ensure we maintain strong links with local Police, Probation and members of communities across the region.

Volunteers are welcome from all parts of the community. What they have in common is a commitment to helping develop a carefully managed, innovative community approach to improving community safety.
